"When mercy is the basis of our behaviour with people,
it teaches us that love is the one and only way to God."

Sheikh Khaled Bentounes

Sheikh Khaled Bentounes was born in Mostaganem, Algeria, in 1949. In April 1976 he was designated the spiritual leader of the Sufi congregation known as Al’ Alawiya.

Writer, teacher, and speaker, Sheikh Bentounes has been traveling around the world for many years now, mainly in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, carrying the traditional education of Sufism. Sheikh Bentounes states that "if Islam is a body, Sufism is its hearts, a place where we learn anew to taste the savor of God in the silence of the moment".

He is the living testimony of a culture of peace and brotherhood that endeavors to unite the efforts of men and women in order to bring out a common element that is nourished by all universal values.

A man of meditation and action, he involved himself early in his life in cultural and social actions, mainly in France and Algeria.

Since the year 2000, Sheikh Bentounes has been participating in the council created by the French government for the organization of the Muslim Religion in France. Indeed, on May 3rd, 2003, the French Council of the Muslim Religion was established, and Sheikh Bentounes became a member of its administrative cabinet.

"Spirituality engages us to take the path of good, of unity, of brotherhood."
